Fornes, Nancy Williams

Nancy Williams Fornes, 89, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Christiansburg, VA on February 29, 1932 to the late Isaac Eugene Williams and Viola Hoover Williams. She graduated from Christiansburg High School and then met William Fornes while he attended VA Poly Technic Institute and they were married on December 24, 1950, just before he was deployed by the U.S. Air Force. While Lt. Fornes fought in the Korean Conflict, he was captured and spent time as a P.O.W. Mrs. Fornes waited for her husband and cared for her family during this difficult time. After 14 months, he was released, and the family rejoiced. Bill and Nancy's lifelong devotion was to develop and improve the P.O.W. Museum in Andersonville. She loved crafting and supporting others with the work of her hands. She also greatly enjoyed caring for her plants, dogs, and birds. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
Mrs. Fornes is survived by her two daughters, Marsha McCord, and Sara Fornes; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Judy Fornes, and Paul and Dare Fornes, all of Valdosta; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Fornes, a sister-in-law Adeline Morton, a brother and sister-in-law William and Frances Williams, daughter-in-law Latrecia Fornes, and great grandson Logun Nowell.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11am in the Mausoleum Chapel of McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Reverend Tommy Bussey officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pearlman Cancer Center at South Georgia Medical Center, P.O.
