Charleen Kay Dawson Burkhart passed away Monday, September 9, 2019, in Sandy Springs, Georgia, at the age of 79. She was born on August 11, 1940 in Princeton, Indiana to the late Charles Milo Dawson and Florence Kenny Dawson. Charleen attended elementary and high school in Globe, Arizona, and then attended Good Samaritan Nursing School, in Phoenix. She joined the United States Air Force and was a flight nurse bringing wounded soldiers home from Vietnam. After leaving the Air Force and the nursing profession, Charleen went back to school and earned her teaching degree and taught for 20 years in Lakeland, Georgia. Upon her retirement from teaching, she relocated to Sandy Springs, Georgia where she lived out the rest of her life living near her family.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Nick and Angie Reed of Hawaii, Tami Reed Gunter of Dunwoody, Ga., and Sean and Lauren Reed of Americus, Ga; five grandchildren, Chase Reed, Dawson Reed, Riley Gunter, Mckenzie Gunter, and Charles Reed ; two brothers, Edward Dawson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kenny Dawson of Clinton, Utah.
Services for Charleen Kay Dawson Burkhart will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mausoleum chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
