James A. Jacobs Sr., 95, of Kingsland passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys.
James Alexander Jacobs Sr. was born May 12, 1923, in Kingsland. He was the son of the late Alex and Maggie Steele Jacobs. Jacobs was a lifelong resident of Camden County, born in the south end of Kingsland known as Powell Quarters, now the Royal Heights area. He was the oldest living member of his church where he was a devoted member for more than 50 years.
Jacobs worked a total of 60 years in his chosen profession as an automotive mechanic. He worked more than 34 years with Ford Motor Company and Cisco Ford in Kingsland after which he started his own business, JJ’s Garage.
Jacobs faithfully labored for this venture until having to fully retire. Yet until death, in his heart he did daily tune-ups, oil changes, brake jobs and even rebuilt engines some days. He believed in “good customer service with a smile.”
Jacobs married Rosa Mae Scott in June 1941. To this union, eight children were born.
Sons James (Viola Betty) and Johnny Jacobs preceded him in death along with his wife, Rosa Mae Jacobs, who passed March 13, 1991.
Survivors are his children, Joyce Foreman, Julius Jacobs and Jerald Jacobs, all of Kingsland, JoAnn Singleton and Jacquelyn Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla., Jonathan (Jerlene) Jacobs of St. Marys and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Jacobs of Kingsland; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; devoted personal friends, care supporters, partners and grandsons, Mario B. Jacobs of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dwayne O. Foreman of St. Marys; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsland. Viewing will be one hour before the service. Interment is in Kingsland Cemetery.
